This first book, which is part of a five volume series, focuses on outlining
the key principles for mastering any style of guitar. It gives guitarists
"perspective" on what it takes to play a guitar efficiently and effectively.
"The series has come along way," says Corcoran. "When I first decided
to write a book, I had no idea I would actually be writing FIVE books!"
The series of books began as a 20 page handout meant to show a
handful of his students how to relate and connect all guitar chords. This
handout became the foundation for a full length guitar method book.
But as the guitarist turned author was writing this book, he began
noticing a need for a series of guitar methods; a need for a complete
system for learning to play a guitar. So one book became three books.
As the writing progressed and the amount of information grew, three
books became four.
And, from there, four became five.
"Since my goal was to make a lot of information accessible, until I really
got deep into the writing process, it was hard to anticipate how to
organize all of it," said Corcoran.
Todd settled on five books for two reasons:
The first had to do with the sheer amount of information itself. Todd's
main motivation for writing these books was to create a simple and
complete systematic method for learning the guitar. A method that could
work for any guitarist. And for it to work for any guitarist, Todd couldn't
assume any prior knowledge about music or the guitar. As result, a lot of
information would need to be addressed. And five volumes simply broke
the vast amount of information into manageable sections.
The second had to do with affordability. Todd didn't want individuals
interested in learning one aspect of playing a guitar feeling obligated to
buy one giant, expensive guitar method. Therefore, someone just
interested in learning chords can buy volume 4; someone just interested
in learning how to solo can buy volume 5; someone just interested in
learning how to practice effectively can buy volume 2, etc...
Corcoran Sounds Publications will begin selling The Guitarists' Secrets
online within the next few weeks, while shopping to various publishers.
And, who knows, maybe a publisher will be interested in distributing the
series in six volumes.

BOULDER - As Todd Corcoran, the author, releases his first book, Todd
Corcoran, the performer, continues work on two new recordings.
As Todd Corcoran works to finish his series of guitar method books, he
has said in no uncertain terms that he'll be in-and-out of the studio with
two new recordings before the end of the year.
When asked what can be expected from these recordings, Corcoran
said: “Well, the first will be a classical guitar recording. It will mark the
starting point of a string of classical recordings that I plan to do over the
next few years. It will feature compositions from a couple of my teachers'
teachers, plus a tune that I wrote for my wife. The second will be the
follow up to Where Do I Go Now. I hope to include a cover or two on this
one, along with some new songs that I've written. Basically, the intention
is a more polished 'eclectic guitarist' recording."
Corcoran says he's very anxious to get into the studio. “The time spent
writing about music has been a rewarding process,” Corcoran said. “I've
learned a lot, and I really think my books will be able to help a lot of
developing guitarists. But... I'm ready to be a musician again.”
